Biology

This course is a full year (two semester) class which discusses the scientific method, its implication, limitations, and its applications to God’s creation.

After studying genetics and embryology, the students are led through a survey of all life forms beginning with bacteria, fungi, plants, protists and then moving on to other animals, concluding with a study of the systems in humans. There is an emphasis on the biological systems as they are evident in “lower” life forms and are seen to be more complex in “higher” life forms such as mammals. There are also studies of plants and of the interrelationships of living things.

Our Goals for the year

  1. The student should be able to recognize God’s attributes which are evident both internally and externally in every part of creation.
  2. The exploration and revelation of Christ and His provision in the design of each area of creation and to impress on the student the importance of glorifying Christ with their lives.
  3. To develop the student’s proper relationship to his Creator.
  4. To develop the proper biological foundations for those students who wish to pursue a career in biology as God’s call for their lives.

Current assignments

DUE: 5/15/15

To supplement our trip to the coast, each student will complete a "book" describing the various activities we will be doing. They will have to answer trivia questions about some stops and give detailed descriptions of others. In addition to these details, they will also be classifying some of the organisms they see and interact with on our trip.

Included with the classification will be one or more pictures of each organism and identifying information based on their observations. I will hand out the blank book with the questions and the students will complete the majority of the work while we travel. Time will be given in class the week following the trip to finish up any other parts, such as the classification, that cannot be completed in the field.
