This course is a combination of critical language arts skills needed to prepare middle school students for the demands of higher learning.  In reading, students are exposed to various fiction and non-fiction narrative and expository text.  They are taught to critically read while using literacy strategies to analyze and comprehend an author's meaning and intent.  Additionally, they are encouraged to read beyond the classroom in an effort to develop a life-long love of reading.   In writing, students are taught to identify the purpose for writing and respond in an appropriate format using correct language usage, grammar, and spelling. In addition to typical English subject, listening skills are fine-tuned in this class. Finally, students are given opportunities to speak before their peers and share their writing through presentations utilizing appropriate technology.
