Willy McAndrews
Subjects: 12th Grade American Government and Economics, 11th Grade U.S. History, 10th Grade World History and Journalism, 9th Grade Geography
My name is Willy McAndrews and I teach high school history classes here at Liberty. I graduated with honors from Simpson University in 2005 with a degree in Social Science for Teachers. I am credentialed in the State of California and ACSI with a Secondary Teaching Credential in Social Science.
I have taught at Liberty for the past 4 years and I consider it to be not only an occupation, but a ministry as well. I feel that I have a historical connection with the students in that I attended Liberty during my four years of high school. I especially enjoy the camaraderie with the staff and the many alumni parents whose children attend here. The generational bond of these former students makes this a very special place to be a part of. There is a historical bond to the community-at-large and the people who are in the Grace Baptist community as well. Recently, I posed for a picture with the son of a former classmate as we folded the American Flag together. His mother and I folded the flag when we were students here and it makes this a special place to me.

My goal is to try and make history interesting to students. I enjoy history and want to pass that interest on to another generation. The highlight of my day is to see the “light go on” when a student understands or remembers a concept I have been teaching. I like to use variety in presenting history in a way that students will remember. I have used art projects, video, written and oral reports, still photos, and even allowed students to present parts of the lesson so that they can be a part of teaching one another.
I have been married to my wife, Cindy, since 1983. Our son, Daniel, is currently serving in the Army. Our daughter, Lynnae, is working towards a degree in Deaf Studies at California State University, Northridge. Our special pride and joy is our grandson, Spencer.
Josh Carpenter
Subjects: Bible 1-4, Jr. High Boys Bible
I am blessed to teach God’s Word at LCHS. I recently graduated with honors from Shasta Bible College with a Bachelor’s degree in Bible/Theology with an emphasis in biblical counseling in the spring of 2010. I am credentialed by ACSI with a Secondary Teaching Credential in Bible/Theology.
One of my life verses in Prov. 23:26, ” Give me your heart my son, and let your eyes look to my ways.” It is my goal to instruct young people in learning about God and applying that knowledge to their lives. My teaching philosophy is basically that of Ezra 7:10, to study God’s Word for myself, apply it to my life, and then teach it to the high school students.
I believe that young people are very important to God. I pray that i can help the Lord ignite faith in the student’s lives so that together we can be a luminous beacon of hope in the world around us. In my class room, students are free to make discoveries in the truth of the Bible as they are cared for and prayed for.
My future plans are to get married to my beautiful fiancee’ Laura in the summer of 2011. We are both ecstatic and enthusiastic about a life of ministry together as we make our home in the north state!
Phil Paradis
Subjects: Geometry, Algebra II, Chemistry, Advanced Math
I teach these subjects in order to guide young people into an appreciation for our awesome, glorious, Creator God, whose Word is truth.
More than any other discipline, mathematics shows the inviolable order and precision of His physical universe. My joy is to see our graduates well prepared to succeed in college, and life. They should be able to accept and defend the truth of a recent creation and flood catastrophe at God’s hand, and by His word. I expect them to apply scientific principles of observation, evidence, and conclusion to the physical world, realizing that random, chance processes cannot ever produce lasting order, much less life!
Graduated 1977 from Christian Heritage College with Bachelor’s in Secondary Ed. with Physical Science emphasis, and a CA state credential. Currently hold an ACSI credential.
Andy Mills
I am a charter graduate of Liberty Christian (1989). I graduated from Shasta Bible College with a BA in Christian Professional Studies. I continued my education at Simpson University where I graduated with a BA degree in Liberal Studies. I also completed my credentialing coursework at Simpson University. I consider it a privilege to teach at a Christian school where the Word of God is foundational to all subjects.
I am the head soccer coach, and I also assist in coaching high school boys basketball. I teach English I, English II, English III and English IV. I also have the privilege of teaching Yearbook and Journalism II. I believe that it is imperative that our students be able to express themselves in both oral and written form. We live in a society that is driven by technology and communication. Teaching high school English and journalism affords me the opportunity to help students improve their skills in both of these areas.
I believe that we, as Christians, have a responsibility to speak and act in a manner that is both intelligent and articulate. It is my goal to push my students to succeed in school, that they may be successful in life, impacting the world for Christ.
My approach to education is to build relationships with my students. I believe it is imperative that my students feel safe, loved and welcome when they enter my classroom. My students know that while they will not be judged, they will be held accountable. Maintaining this balance with my students is difficult, but absolutely worth the effort!
Liz Ann Adams
My name is Liz Ann Adams, the librarian and elementary music teacher. I love music and books. Our home is full of evidence of this. I wanted my family to love music and reading just as much, so I introduced my sons to both subjects at a very young age. I am pleased to say that they have all taken well to it. I am just as excited to watch my “school kids” learn to love to read and to sing and play a simple instrument.
My goal for my kids is to have them experience the joy of serving our Lord with their music talent, speech, drama, writing, etc. I love helping young people improve their skills, whether it be for a part in the Christmas or Grandparents’ Day programs, speech meets, Spelling Bee, book reports, or just learning how to be a good friend. I truly enjoy the kids and interacting with them. I love their inexhaustible imaginations and creative energy and I strive to teach music theory in the midst of sharing my love of serving our Lord with them.
Andrew Paradis
I attended Washington Baptist Teacher’s College and Christian Heritage College and earned a B.S. degree in Natural Science with a minor in Bible at WBTC. I completed my ACSI Teaching Certification there as well and taught for two and a half years at Tacoma Baptist Schools before returning to Liberty to teach here in the fall of 1994.
I enjoy teaching Science (Biology and Physics) because of the impressive complexity of the systems that God has set up. It is exciting to observe the students as they investigate the many designed structures that make up all living organisms. As we study examples that range from single-cell organisms to the largest plants and mammals, we see God’s consistent design and care for everything around us. By utilizing the basic principles of science – observation and investigation – I am able to encourage my students to look at the world around them through clear eyes, without being clouded by the nonsense of speculation that is so common in all levels of education today.
I also teach Algebra I which reflects the same orderliness as Biology and Physics and my students realize that everything we rely on each day comes from the mind of God. Without the consistency of the basic laws of nature and mathematics, we could not predict results in any area of life. Through an honest study of math and science it becomes obvious that we cannot deny God’s providential interaction with us. As my students learn to apply this idea to their studies, they can grow to be better students which should result in them being more responsible citizens who glorify Christ in all they do.
In my Computer Graphics, we focus on the creative side of our abilities by learning how to use the computer to create and manipulate images to enhance the students’ use of the tools available to them. In Computer Programming, we are able to reinforce the logical thinking skills they have learned in other classes to troubleshoot and problem solve.
Cecilia Henson
Hello, my name is Cecilia Henson and I am the Spanish teacher at Liberty Christian High School. This is my fourth year teaching Spanish I and II to Junior and Senior students. I am originally from Bolivia, South America. I moved with my beautiful family to the United States in the year 2000, and to Redding, California in July of 2005. My husband and I wanted to have our children in a good Christian school, and we were very pleased to find Liberty Christian.
As a teacher, my goal is to help each one of my students to be able to speak, read, understand and communicate in the Spanish language as much as possible. Throughout the school year, I try to expose students to “real life situations” they might encounter while visiting a Spanish speaking country or interacting with a Spanish speaking person.
I recognize that students have different learning styles and interests. I try to engage as many senses as possible to increase their learning experience. Students work on hands-on projects, practice small dialogues, participate in creative writing, visit a Mexican restaurant, learn Spanish songs, watch videos, learn about the Hispanic countries and their culture, and listen to guest speakers (missionaries and professionals) from Spanish speaking countries.
Although I do not expect perfection, I want my students to do their best to improve their pronunciation and increase their vocabulary with daily oral and written exercises, working in groups and individually.
I believe that knowing a different language gives us many advantages in life-from having more opportunities for work to safer traveling experiences on foreign countries. Still, the most important reason to learn a language is that it can help us to be more effective in our service to the Lord, not only as missionaries but in our daily life.
I feel honored and blessed by the Lord for giving me the opportunity to work with each one of my students. They are wonderful and unique individuals full of dreams and expectations ready to explore and apply their knowledge and caring spirit towards others.
I graduated from the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz. Currently, I am working on my teaching credentials through Chico State University.
