Physical Education

Course Description:
Physical Education is divided into six week segments. A new activity is played in each segment. Students learn the basics of each sport and become physically fit through general conditioning. Most of the class time is spent playing the sport. A test is given at the conclusion of each unit.
Goals:
1. To teach each student to have a concern for his body which is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
2. For each student to become aerobically fit.
3. For each student to understand cardiovascular fitness, and know how and why to achieve it.
4. For each student to develop life-long habits of exercise and fitness.
5. To expose each student to a wide variety of sports and recreational activities.
6. To help each student develop athletic skills.
7. To provide each student with wholesome recreation as well as provide a means of releasing frustrations.
8. To develop character qualities such as teamwork, persistence, self-control, and courage in each student through intense activities.
9. To make each student less susceptible to injury, sickness, and disease through strengthening and conditioning.
10. To aid in helping those in athletics to reach their peak potential.
11. To teach each student a general understanding of the human body.
12. To make each student aware of the various vocations in the field of health and physical education.
