Driver’s Education

Course Description:
The ninth grade Driver’s Education course is one semester in length. It will teach the student to apply the concepts of driving a motorized vehicle as he/she prepares to get behind the wheel and learn to become a good, safe driver. It will include information on the highway transportation system and present tools to use in managing the risk involved in driving. The California Graduated Driver Licensing system is presented. Subjects covered include how emotions, physical conditions and alcohol affect driving. The basics of signs, signals and marking and rules of the road are emphasized. Also covered are starting, steering, stopping, turning and parking.
Course Goals:
1. Provide the basic information and skills necessary to become a competent driver.
2. Convey to students that driving is a privilege, not a right.
3. Show students that good driving consists of knowledge, skill, attitude and one’s emotional and physical condition.
