Physical Science
Teacher: Andy Mills
Course Description:
This ninth grade Physical Science course is a one-year course. It is an introductory survey of chemistry and physics designed for all entering freshmen. The content of the course includes the scientific method, the basic measurement methods of matter, basic properties of matter in various states, classification systems related to the Periodic Table, the main atomic models, the families of atoms and their properties, some of the major groups of chemical reactions, various kinds of solutions and their properties, simple machines, mechanics, problems related to velocity, acceleration and related forces and the Newtonian Laws, various forms of energy, the principles of heat, electricity and magnetism, harmonic patterns, sound, light and optics.
Course Goals:
- Build and maintain a personal notebook that contains all work accomplished regarding the main concepts being learned.
- Give the student an appreciation of God’s infinite power as evidenced in creation.
- Give the student a basic understanding of the principles of chemistry.
- To guide the student into an elementary knowledge of the principles of physics.
