Algebra I
Teacher: Andrew Paradis
Course Description:
Algebra I is a full year (two semester) class. The principle of balancing equations and inequalities is stressed in the first semester and is applied to word problems (motion, mixture, etc) and graphing. In the second semester polynomials, quadratic equations and rational equations are presented and the course completes with quadratic functions.
Goals:
1. To give the student a good understanding of the concepts and use of equations as well as insight into the balance and logic in God’s creation.
2. To provide familiarity with polynomial equations and expressions.
3. To introduce a deeper knowledge of linear equations and the consistency of mathematics to better understand the perfection of our Creator.
4. To guide the student to use equations to solve complex verbal problems and apply these principles to solving problems in life with an orderly approach.
5. To reinforce the student’s knowledge of roots and exponents.
6. To familiarize the student with higher order equations and equip them with the skills to solve them.
7. To prepare the student with basic trigonometry skills.
