Semester 1 – Government
Course Description:
The purpose and nature of civil government is studied. Various other kinds of governments are compared along with their origins in history. The Constitution and the three branches of our government (legislative, judicial, and executive) are studied. Patriotism and citizenship is also covered plus practical application for the student in individual responsibilities as a Christian. American Government is a one semester course.
Goals:
1. To develop the ability to think logically through the issues of the day.
2. To understand the early American society and the development of its government.
3. To understand the basic tenets of a free society.
4. To grasp the cost of American freedom, the responsibility of freedom, and the enjoyment of freedom.
5. To understand the development of America’s political party system.
6. To develop the students into participants in out government by understanding the necessity to be an educated voter, aware of current issues, learning the value of communicating with their Congressmen, and the need for the support of our government.
Semester 2 – Economics
Course Description:
The 12th grade Economics course is a one-semester course. This class consists of basic terms and economic principles
Goals:
1. Students will demonstrate an increased understanding of economics both in economic theory and related principles.
2. Will complete a MLA style research paper in the area of economics and include with current events in a portfolio.
3. Students are to put together a family budget, manage a checkbook, discuss family budgeting and roles in the family, fill out forms such as loan, tax, and budgeting papers. Opinion papers, a portfolio, and a job research paper are all included in this project.
