English IV

Course Description:
English IV is a one year college preparatory course that emphasizes a variety of British literary works from the Anglo/ Saxon period through the Modern period. An assortment of compositions is assigned regularly that incorporate writing and grammar skills. Vocabulary words are taken both from a vocabulary book and from assigned novel reading,
Goals:
1. To acquaint the student with noted works and authors of British literature.
2. To prepare the student for successfully completing a college literature course.
3. To motivate the student to appreciate and desire well-written, wholesome literature.
4 To develop the student’s writing skills.
5. To increase the student’s vocabulary.
6. To improve the student’s reading comprehension through the discussion of the material.
7. To help the student understand the role of theme, plot, imagery, and figurative
language.
8. To reinforce the student’s knowledge of grammar.
9. To improve the student’s ability to apply biblical principles in evaluating literature.
10. To help the student appreciate Elizabethan and Romantic poetry.
