US History

Course Description:
The purpose of the United States History class is to show how individuals established and built the foundation of the United States. The course begins with the early discoveries of America and ends with contemporary United States History.
Goals:
1. To understand people and events that have been pivotal in the development of the United States.
2. To learn how to become historians by interviewing people, preparing reports in group and individual formats, and discussing various topics related to the history of the United States.
3. To prepare students to write, speak, and collect data about historical events.
Key Assignments:
1. A Card File of the first fifteen U.S. Presidents with important events that occurred during their terms of office.
2. Various manipulative (craft-type) assignments on events of historical significance. These may include Indian Removal Act, Texas Independence, Mexican-American War, Civil War, WW1 and WW2 events.
3. A Civil War Magazine.
4. A World War Two Project.
