Welcome to our class! Learning a language can be challenging, rewarding, and fascinating at the same time. You will not only learn new sounds and words, but you will be introduced to interesting and important cultures, to new ideas, and new traditions. You will have a better understanding of different world views, and increase your opportunities to make new friends. You will also be able to better understand and appreciate your own language and culture, as well as recognize many similarities among your culture and Spanish cultures.
Learning to speak, read, and write in Spanish will give you more opportunities for work in the future. Traveling to foreign countries can be more fulfilling. You will be able to communicate with others, and especially share the powerful message of the Gospel to many who need so desperately to hear it.
Course Description:
Spanish I is a college preparatory course providing students with a basic understanding of how to speak, listen, read, and write in the Spanish language. A great emphasis will be placed on grammar and vocabulary. It will also provide the student with an overview of the Hispanic culture worldwide.
Goals:
1. To learn and review basic Spanish grammar daily through class exercises and/or homework.
2. To participate in oral exercises to increase oral communication skills in Spanish.
3. To Recite weekly memory work in Spanish.
4. To have students work in small groups and prepare four to six dialogues in Spanish to the class.
5.To have students learn from guest speakers from Spanish speaking countries.
