English III

Course Description:
English III is a one-year college preparatory course that emphasizes a variety of noted American literary works from the Early American period to the Modern period. In addition to selections from the literature text, a minimum of one novel will be read. An assortment of writing activities is assigned regularly that incorporate writing and grammar skills, and grade level spelling and vocabulary words are assigned weekly.
Goals:
1. To motivate the student to appreciate and to desire well-written, wholesome
literature.
2. To help the student develop writing skills.
3. To increase the student’s vocabulary.
4. To improve the student’s reading comprehension.
5. To help the student understand the role of theme, plot, imagery, and figurative
language in literature.
6. To reinforce the student’s knowledge of grammar.
7. To improve the student’s ability to apply biblical principles in evaluating literature.
8. To improve the student’s ability to spell.
