Consumer Math

Course Description:
Consumer Math is a practical approach to the study of mathematics, applying math concepts to everyday problems. The students learn the “how-to’s.” The units discussed include such topics as figuring income tax, reconciling a bank statement, computing interest using various methods, budgeting, and purchasing insurance programs. These are only a few of the many challenging true-to-life situation problems.
Goals:
1. To help the students see how we use math in everyday life.
2. To show the students practical ways to figure math problems in their heads.
3. To show the students how to work through everyday problems such as: banking, housing, taxes, insurance, etc.
4. To teach formulas for figuring areas.
5. To teach students good stewardship of the material things God has given them.
6. To show students the relevance of God’s word and math.
