Chemistry
Teacher: Phil Paradis
Course Description:
Chemistry is a one year college preparatory course for juniors or seniors who possess good math skills. The course begins with an introduction to matter and scientific terms, a review of conversions, an orderly form for algebra, and a study of logical order. The molecular structure and bonding is related to the periodic table of the elements. The course then includes phases of matter, thermodynamics, the relationship of elements by ionization energy, electron affinity, and electronegativity. The behavior of matter in terms of acidity, oxidation-reduction, and electric potential is followed by organic chemistry and nuclear chemistry. The methods include lecture, demonstration, and laboratory exercises.
Goals:
1. To relate through the study of chemistry what we experience in creation to why it happens as it does.
2. To subdue the earth and to steward its resources without wasting them.
3. To see the matchless power of God that created and sustains the universe.
4. To be prepared better for college science classes or careers relating to chemistry.
5. To learn to do independent research to find answers to questions.
6. To reason everyday problems with logical order.
7. To see the mathematical order of the universe.
8. To present knowns and unknowns in order.
9. To solve equations in orderly form.
