Algebra II
Teacher: Phil Paradis
Course Description:
This course is designed to give the students a more intimate association with the balance concept of equations. These equations utilize complex fractions, radicals, and factoring, and are solved as many as three at a time. One of the main principles instilled in the minds of the students is the predictability or consistency of algebra, in that a problem may be solved in any one of several ways with the same answer as long as the rules are followed. The development of algebraic intuition is encouraged and applied to the subject using logarithms and trigonometry.
Goals:
1. To strengthen and develop those basic skills learned in first year algebra.
2. To expand the student’s expertise with polynomials.
3. To give the student an intuitive understanding of the principles of dependence and functional relations.
4. To give the student a new depth to his grasp of powers and roots.
5. To give the student a basic knowledge of the elemental principles of trigonometry.
