English II

Course Description:
English II is a one-year college preparatory course with an emphasis on grammar. World literature is taught and masterpiece paintings with their respective artists are included in the literature text. An assortment of compositions is assigned that incorporate writing skills. Grade level spelling and vocabulary words are assigned regularly and occasional poem memorization is also assigned.
Goals:
1. To help the student master his/her grammar skills.
2. To motivate the student to desire well-written, wholesome literature.
3. To help the student develop his/her writing skills.
4. To increase the student’s vocabulary.
5. To help the students to become self-directed learners.
6. To help the student understand the role of theme, plot, imagery, and figurative
language in literature.
7. To give the student an understanding of meter and rhyme in poetry.
8. To improve the student’s ability to apply biblical principles in evaluating
literature.
